About Melanie Phung
Melanie Phung is a Washington DC SEO and online marketing professional with expertise in building search-engine friendly websites, content development and information architecture. In her current role as Director of SEO & Internet Strategy at RedEngine Digital, she works on search marketing campaigns, social media and general online marketing strategy for a variety of not-for-profit organizations.
She got her start in the search engine optimization industry when she was in charge of SEO for a publicly traded e-commerce company, where her main focus was the company’s flagship shopping site Wirefly.com. Wirefly is the largest online retailer of cell phones from all major U.S. cell phone carriers and one of HitWise’s Top 5 Electronics Shopping Sites on the Web. Under her direction, the company’s websites gained top 3 rankings for many of the vertical’s most competitive keyword terms, resulting in millions of dollars in incremental revenue from organic search.
Prior to her SEO work, Melanie managed email newsletters for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, helping the organization launch and expand dozens of branded electronic publications, and also ran the publications program of the Telecommunications Industry Association, where she helped the telecom trade organization move all of its publications online.
In her free time, Melanie enjoys taking photos of Washington DC, obsessing over Flickr’s Interestingness algorithm, and fussing over her parrots, and sharing thoughts/resources 140 characters at a time.
