Quote of the Week: Now Get Back to Work

“Just ‘cos you work on the internet, and Twitter happens to be on the internet, does not mean Twitter is work.” - Matt Davies
From 21 Reasons Twitter is Bullshit. And I think I just killed a kitten.
Ah yes…it feels so good to rant about free online applications that others use and get satisfaction out of. Just…don’t use it.
The difference being… my friends on Facebook might actually care how my day has been. Your twitter followers… don’t.
First one to guess my friend count gets a toffee.
My new blogging strategy from now on should be simply to quote other people’s posts and watch the comments roll in. Seems much more effective than actually writing my own stuff. =)
@Teddy - I think I use FB more like Matt does. I only “friend” people I actually know. And the friending has to be reciprocal. On Twitter you just stalk, I mean follow, anyone, and as many anyones, as you possibly can.
That said, I try to keep my follow count low and unfollow anyone who tweets too many “I’m eating ice cream now” posts… except SEO Hack, of course. To me it honestly is about trying to have conversations, much like IM.
@Matt, what kind of toffee? Would you consider a bag of Bassett weingums instead? =)
@ matt - 23 per chance?
@ sunshine - i really do feel honored that i’m the only one you’ll tolerate over-tweeting from! =) thanks!

I loved the juxtaposition of this rule (because it’s so true):
#14. In real life, it’s usually considered impolite to start banging on to relative strangers about how your day was before they’ve even asked. Why is this so different on the internet?
…with this one (because he doesn’t seem to recognize that he is the pot calling the kettle black):
#9. When I do exactly the same thing on Facebook, my real friends get to read it.
Anybody want to wager on how big his Facebook friends list is?
